Often people ask about how and why I left a respected and stable job as a nurse to become a “
Dildo Diva.” So here is my story.
I attended my first “sex toy and lingerie party” back in the mid ’70′s when I was in college. And then I actually hosted one of THOSE parties myself. We had the best time! My friends and I still talked about the fun and laughs we had for years afterwards and we always wanted to have another one, but we could never find anyone to help us.
I have been a Registered Nurse since 1978, with about 8 years in critical care, followed by 2 years teaching nursing, and then working in an office environment away from direct patient care for the next 17 or so years. Nursing is a very hard and demanding job and a lot of nurses I know are the type who work hard and play hard too.
Finally in 1998 there was an article in the local paper entitled “
Sex Toys Go the Way of Tupperware.” We were sure we hit pay dirt! We contacted all the companies listed in the article and wouldn’t you know – none of them were in our area. They said that the best way to have a party is to sign up and do it yourself. So I did! I figured with my nursing background I had some training in sexuality, and parties looked like fun. For the cost of a demonstration kit (I got the big one – size DOES matter) I found myself in the passion and pleasure business.
Am I ever glad I took that giant leap-of-faith. But much to my surprise, I never dreamed it would end up changing so many lives. As it turns out, more and more couples are searching for new ways to add romance to their lives every day. No one wants to admit that they need help adding back that spark or finding their g-spot or even learning how to pronounce clitoris.
Sexuality and sensuality are no different than anything else, but most of us have been taught to keep everything about it hush-hush. My hands-on approach to sharing information is unique, effective and even entertaining. But by putting people at ease and allowing them to ask questions about sensual products in a private and confidential atmosphere, I can help open up new doors of communication in relationships. I get calls every week from women who have had amazing and wonderful changes and improvements in their sensual satisfaction levels after adding a simple new bedroom accessory, lotion or potion or trying out a new technique or trick that I taught them.
I have been married to a wonderful man since 1988. We really never thought there was anything lacking in our love life, but the extra spark, zest and fun we have been able to add has really helped us bring our own relationship to a new level. In the busy, rushed and hurried pace we keep up every day, sometimes even the simplest of pleasures can easily be even more pleasurable. My hubby’s favorite part of the business used to be the product testing. In 2001 we had a horrible scare when I found him unconscious in the back yard. It turns out he was a new diabetic!!! And me a nurse to boot!
After a couple of weeks in the hospital, countless doctors and specialists he started to improve but not back to his old level of function and he was diagnosed with several complications and permanently disabled and in a wheel chair. What a complete change in our lives, but my Passion Parties business was great. I could put it on hold while I took care of him for months, but my check kept rolling in. Even though we both made decent money, I never took care of the bills so I had no idea how much we had where, what we owed, where it went. And disability payments take a while to get to you in. Was I ever glad I had a check coming in every month from Passion Parties. I could pay all my bills in cash and not worry about bounced check fees. Fortunately, he is able to walk now, but will never be back to his old job. Now I think he really likes the fact that I am now self employed and working from home full time. We get to spend every day together and we love it!
These days you can find me in people’s living rooms two or three times a week. We eat, we drink, we talk about sex for a couple hours and I help them pick out anything from a new pheromone infused scent to wear, to an intriguing lotion or potion to try, or even a new BOB (battery operated boyfriend) as we like to call them.
As a matter of fact, right now I am making more money than I ever have in my life, even after close to 30 years as a nurse. I’ve made so many great new friends, been on trips all over the world, I have a car paid for by my Passion Parties car bonus, and I have more fun than anyone should be allowed to! I even left my day job for good in February 2004 after 17 years. Not bad for an ordinary mid-western farm girl-next-door type.
There are so many great opportunities for personal and professional growth when you own your own business. No matter how bad my day seems or how tired I feel before I do a party, there is something about getting together with a room full of ladies and talking about our love lives and life in general that is really special and enlightening.
Another bonus is all the positive energy from all the fabulous women I meet. I feel so fortunate to have found such a unique opportunity that gives me a chance to really make a difference in people’s lives. Sometimes I think that I am the luckiest girl in the world! I never dreamed that I would be able to win contests, earn trips and have the time of my life, and feel like a princess, all while doing something I love, partying for a living and helping other people improve their lives and loves.
A quote I once heard says it all, “Never be afraid to try something new, amateurs built the ark…professionals built the Titanic! I think this really sums it up. Sink or float, it is up to you, but you will never know the joys or the pains until you get out there and start paddling. So I say grab a paddle! And if you don’t have one, call me I can help!
